Gallery Talk: Lia Cook | Identify Yourself
February 16, 2016 03:30pm-04:15pm
Honolulu Museum of Art
Prior to her lecture in Doris Duke Theatre, join visiting artist Lia Cook in the textile exhibition Identify Yourself to hear her discuss the painstaking work that went into her intricate self-portrait, Mona Lia, which is a recent acquisition to the museum. Visitors can learn firsthand what techniques Cook used in the larger-than-life textile piece to explore notions of imaging, memory, emotion, and human responses to art. Get up close and find out how deep a self-portrait can go—Cook says that the individual fibers in the piece "represent the neural connections between different parts of my brain."
