About this Class:

Workshop / 2 sessions / $50 / Ceramics Lab / Sat–Sun 1–4pm / Sep 26–27

Witness world-renowned artist Lee Kanghyo demonstrate how quickly he can transform a body of clay into a stunning work of art. A contemporary potter, Lee will draw upon historical Korean ceramic techniques to show how the onggi-making technique may transcend the (speed and size) limits of a simple throwing wheel. The artist will show how to form and beat thick coils together to shape a vessel. In the second class, students will learn a variety of innovative methods for applying white slip, a common decoration found in buncheong wares of the early Joseon dynasty (15th to 16th century), on to the vessel. Workshop participants will have opportunities to try out the techniques presented in this class.
