About this Class:
In the spirit of painters such as Edgar Degas, this studio class explores the human figure by having you create and paint true-to-life situations. Using live models in the studio, our subjects may be working, resting, reading or dressing. The normal activities that make up life will be studied as themes and brought to life over a varied number of sessions, from three hours to multiple sessions. Models may be clothed, semi-clothed, or nude depending on the situation being created. We may also decide to culminate the experience by painting outdoors with the model towards the end of our semester.
Pupils will be able to assist the instructor in many aspects of the pose, including color design and lighting. This class is open to a variety of mediums depending on individual preference, including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and drawing mediums. Prior figure drawing experience is recommended.
The class will visit the museum galleries to study the collection for inspiration and to learn about art-making processes.
