About this Class:
In this repeatable class, instructor Jan Dickey works with students to develop the ability to draw what they see. A classical method of instruction will be employed throughout: making "sight-size" drawings (precise and proportional copying) from the artist Charles Bargue's lithographs. This is an educational method with a long tradition, and one still used by classical ateliers all around the world.
Dickey draws upon his training at the Academy of Classical Design in Southern Pines, NC, to improve students' ability to see value and shape, and render those things with pencil and paper.
Students will work at their own pace, and will graduate to new projects from the Charles Bargue Drawing Course as they complete assignments. Students may continue to enroll in this course and receive new assignments based on what they have completed previously.
The class will visit the museum galleries to study the collection for inspiration and to learn about art-making processes.
For advancing students: additional supplies may be needed upon progression through the program, and upon discussion between instructor and student.
No class Oct 12 & Nov 23
